Student safety representative’s obligations

To observe some parts of the Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act (2009:400). This means that the representative may not reveal:
1. Confidential information
2. Personal information
Retain, for at least two years, a transcript of any written communication received by him/her from a supervisory authority (e.g. The Swedish Work Environment Authority)

The 6 6a§ request

According to Chapter 6, Section 6a in the Work Environment Act, safety representatives (including student safety representatives) have the right to request an investigation/action.

The employer/study organiser shall reply to the request without delay
If no satisfactory reply is received or action taken within a reasonable time, the representative can turn to the Swedish Work Environment Authority and request an injunction (föreläggande) or prohibition (förbud)
The decision by the authority can be appealed by the dissatisfied party (safety representative or employer/study organiser)

The safety representative’s right to stop the work/study does not apply to student safety representatives.

The rights of the student safety representative during an investigation

The Student Safety Representative (SSO) has the right to receive information about students' incidents (and incidents) within the protection area (in SSO's department). The investigator of a student's incident report shall give SSO the opportunity for transparency and participation in the investigation and the measures as well as the follow-up. SSO can not obtain personal information about the reporting student if the student him-/herself has not contacted the SSO.

The chief student safety representatives must be available

It must be possible to get in touch with the chief student safety representative (HSSO) during the day on weekdays (office hours) in case something happens. If the student union has not appointed an HSSO, someone from the union board must be available. Contact information should be sent to the departments and preferably also to the chief safety representatives and central HR.
