Three options for embedding Studio videos

This page shows examples of the three available Studio embed views in Canvas. You need to be a registered student in the course to see these options.

Use this page to compare how the same type of Studio video can be displayed in different ways. The option you choose affects how much space the video takes on the page and how students interact with transcripts, comments and the video player.

Note: These options apply to embeds created after 22 June 2026. The options cannot be added retroactively to a video that has already been embedded. To use these views, add the video again from the Studio library.

1. Thumbnail View

Thumbnail View displays the video as a compact preview on the Canvas page. It is a good choice when you want to save page space, especially on pages that contain several videos or where the video is supplementary rather than the main focus of the page.

When the viewer clicks the thumbnail, the video opens in a full-screen Immersive View. In that view, the video can be shown with a searchable transcript panel, if a transcript is available and enabled.

Example video: Add your Thumbnail View Studio embed here.

2. Learn View

Learn View is designed for focused study. The video is displayed directly on the Canvas page alongside a synchronized, rolling transcript so students can read and watch at the same time.

This view is useful when the video is a central part of the learning material and when students benefit from following the transcript while the video is playing. The transcript also makes it easier to search for key terms and return to specific parts of the video. It can be helpful if the video displays alot of text from a PowerPoint which is hidden under the usual closed captions.

If students find the rolling transcript distracting they can disable it using the toggle view option on the player.

Example video: Add your Learn View Studio embed here.

3. Collab View

Collab View includes the video, the transcript features from Learn View, and a designated comment section on the page. This makes it suitable when the video is intended to support interaction, peer feedback or discussion.

Students can add comments connected to the video. This can be useful when the video is used as a basis for group work, reflection, threaded discussion or feedback activities.

Example video: Add your Collab View Studio embed here.

Which view should I choose?

**Summary of Studio embed views**
View	Best used when
Thumbnail View	You want a compact preview that saves space on the Canvas page.
Learn View	You want students to watch the video and follow the rolling transcript at the same time.
Collab View	You want students to comment, discuss or give feedback in connection with the video.

Recommendation before embedding a Studio video

Before embedding a video from Studio, always add a short text on the Canvas page above the video. The text should include the title of the video, the length of the video, and the name of the presenter or lecturer. This makes it clearer for students which material they are expected to watch. It also makes it easier for you as a teacher or administrator to find the correct video in Studio, and easier for support to troubleshoot if a video later disappears or does not display correctly.
