If you want to share one video, outside of Canvas, or in Canvas public pages, you can create a public link to the video. This means that everyone who receives your link or who has access to your link can watch the video, even though they are not logged into Canvas.

Create a public link

Open Canvas Studio (NB! Studio in the Global menu.
Click the three dots in the bottom corner of the video and select Share Media.

Share media

A window will open, first click on Links and then click on Create Public Link.
Now the public link (1) is generated (as well as an embed code (2) that can be used outside the Canvas system).
Click the button on the right of the link to copy it the link. Click on Done to close window.

Things to consider

Delete button: To the right of the copy button is a button with a trash can icon. This button deletes the link.
If you delete the link, the link will be broken in all places you have put it. You cannot restore the link, but only create a new one. This can be useful if the link is shared with people who aren't going to see the video. But avoid deleting the link if you don't want the video to stop working in all the places it has been shared.

You can use this link just like you would to create a link to any external link.

No analytics for public videos

Canvas Studio does not provide analytics for publicly shared videos. This is because it is designed to work within the Canvas LMS, where tracking and insights rely on identifiable users enrolled in a course. When a video is shared via a public link or embed code, it becomes accessible without login or authentication, making it impossible for the system to track viewer interactions or generate meaningful analytics. Canvas Studio’s strength lies in its ability to support interactive learning tied to student progress, which requires authenticated users. For broader audiences and public analytics, platforms like YouTube or Vimeo are more suitable, as Canvas Studio is specifically built for use within the controlled environment of Canvas LMS.
