The Phase 3 - Application is a central part of the TBL Module, and a prerequisite that the students can achieve the learning outcomes of the Module. During this phase, learning activities are designed with strong elements of collegial/peer/Team Based Learning to optimally support integration of previously acquired knowledge with new, more complex knowledge in this Phase, along with Application excercises for attaining the outcomes of the TBL module. The specific learning Objectives for this Phase are higher level than for the previous Phases, with focus on analyzing, comparing, relating, applying and theoretizing.

Much of the activities are done in student Teams - this means that that the stronger students can help other students through collegial/peer learning. This is also important Team work practice for Professional Development. There are follow-up sessions where the students in different Teams hear and discuss how the other Teams have reasoned.

At KI, we use the system called InteDashboard linked with the Canvas pages as a platform for student teams to submit the answers to specific questions that they have to answer. InteDashboard is also used for the follow-ups in the "obligatory application seminar", similar to the follow-ups of the base tests.

The typically mixed activities can include

Task: Reflect on your own teaching in relation to Team Base Learning

Think about your own teaching, and reflect which components or contents in the topic you teach could be organized in the form a TBL module - which components are suitable for the Preparation Phase and which components are suitable for the Application Phase. In many cases, there is already a multi-step learning sequence consisting of introductory/basic lectures and then more advanced and applying elements such as interactive Seminars or Group discussions.
