This toolkit is created to help you, teaching and supervisory staff (educators) at Karolinska Institutet (KI), to teach through the trans-formative vision of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. On this page you will find an overview of the toolkit and how to use it.

Aims

This Toolkit is expected to help KI educators with teaching through 2030 Agenda lens via providing them with:

pedagogical knowledge, recommendations and promising practices on teaching and learning based on trans-formative vision of 2030 Agenda for SDGs
overview of the framework of 2030 Agenda for SDGs and teaching materials related to the 17 SDGs to help you integrating SDGs in your context.

Objectives

This toolkit will help educators to

obtain understanding on why integrating SDGs in your teaching is important;
understand the overlap between SDG4.7, education for sustainable development, Education for global citizenship, internationalisation, the 8 principles of 2030 Agenda and it relevance to your teaching practices
be aware of the knowledge, values, skills and competencies of sustainable development that are necessary for your students to develop in order to be SDGs implementer;
get recommendations and inspiration on how to integrate SDGs in your teaching context;
be familiar with the SDGs framework;
use ready made teaching and learning materials in your courses in Canvas.

Target audience

Teaching and supervisory staff at KI; in this toolkit they will be referred to as educators.

Structure

This toolkit is divided into two parts,

Part 1 (Module 0-1)
- Module 0 toolkit overview,
- Module 1 includes
  1. Recommendations for educators
  2. why integrating SDGs in your teaching is important?
  3. pedagogical knowledge on SDG4.7, education for sustainable development, internationalisation of the curriculum, the 8 principles of 2030 Agenda
  4. promising practices on teaching via the lens of 2030 Agenda.
Part 2 (Module 2-11) teaching examples related to the 17 SDGs to copy and use in your courses in Canvas; these teaching materials related to the 17 SDGs in forms of recorded videos, articles, quizzes, tests to name a few, feel free to use some or all. In some sections you will find more than one SDGs to show synergies between different SDGs and one example to show it. The final section is evaluation of the toolkit.

How to navigate the toolkit

To navigate this toolkit first you need to:

go through Module 0-1 they are obligatory because they provide you with
- Module 0 general overview of the toolkit
- Module 1 recommendations on how to integrate SDGs in your teaching context and why is it important as well as promising teaching practices at KI
go through Module 2-11
- Module 2 will provide you with overview of the framework of 2030 Agenda for SDGs
- Module 3-11 you find teaching materials related to the 17 SDGs to copy and use in your courses in Canvas; you are free to decide what SDG to focus on and copy these teaching materials which are in forms of recorded videos, podcasts, articles, quizzes, tests to name a few.
- While navigating these modules 2-11 you find that the module always starts with module overview with module structure and the recommendation for educators you find in blockquote style while the blue coloured boxes are used when there are tasks for your students to do and the pink coloured boxes are used for TIPS.
