SDG2: Target 2.1

Target 2.1 states that By 2030, end hunger and ensure access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations, including infants, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round. This target is mainly about achieving access to enough  amount of food for everybody in the world and therefore its measured by both the prevalence of undernourishment (when a person is not able to acquire enough food to meet daily minimum dietary energy requirements over a period of one year) and food insecurity (the disruption of food intake or eating patterns which is often will be due to the shortage of money or other resources e.g. logistics in populations. In 2019, close to 750 million – or nearly one in ten people in the world – were exposed to severe levels of food insecurity; 6.9 per cent (or 47 million) children under 5 were affected by wasting, or acute undernutrition, a condition caused by limited nutrient intake and infection.
