About the Toolkit

This toolkit is created to help you, teaching and supervisory staff (educators) at Karolinska Institutet (KI), to find the link between Global Health and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and guides you on to teach through the trans-formative vision of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. On this page you will find an overview of the toolkit and how to use it.

Aims

This Toolkit is expected to help KI educators with teaching Global Health through 2030 Agenda lens via providing them with:

pedagogical knowledge, recommendations and promising practices on teaching and learning based on trans-formative vision of 2030 Agenda for SDGs;
overview of the framework of 2030 Agenda for SDGs and teaching examples related to linking SDGs to health issues to help you integrating SDGs in your Global Health teaching;

Objectives

This toolkit will help educators to:

obtain understanding on what are Global Health and SDGs why they are important for your students at KI;
obtain understanding on why integrating Global Health and SDGs in your teaching are important;
understand the overlap between SDG4.7, education for sustainable development, Education for global citizenship, internationalisation, the 8 principles of 2030 Agenda and it relevance to your teaching practices;
be aware of the knowledge, values, skills and competencies of sustainable development that are necessary for your students to develop in order to be SDGs implementer;
get recommendations and inspiration on how to integrate Global Health and SDGs in your teaching context;
show the interlink between Global Health and SDGs;
use ready made teaching and learning materials in your courses in Canvas.

Target audience

Teaching and supervisory staff at KI; in this toolkit they will be referred to as educators.

Structure

This toolkit is divided into two parts:

Part 1 (Module 0-1)
- Module 0 toolkit overview;
- Module 1 includes:
  1. Recommendations for educators;
  2. why integrating Global Health and SDGs in your teaching is important?;
  3. pedagogical knowledge on SDG4.7, education for sustainable development, internationalisation of the curriculum, the 8 principles of 2030 Agenda;
  4. promising practices on teaching via the lens of 2030 Agenda.
Part 2 (Module 2-4): Module 2 includes teaching materials for pre-course materials, Module 3 provides overview about the link between Global Health and the 2030 Agenda for SDGs; Module 4 presents teaching examples related to the link between SDGs and health issues with teaching examples that are made to copy and use in your courses in Canvas; these teaching materials are in forms of recorded videos, articles, quizzes, tests to name a few. The final section is evaluation of the toolkit.

How to navigate the toolkit

To access this toolkit you need to click on the link Teaching Global Health through the Sustainable Development Goals Agenda. To navigate this toolkit first you need to:

go through Module 0-1 they are obligatory because they provide you with
- Module 0 general overview of the toolkit;
- Module 1 recommendations on pedagogical knowledge and practices when teaching through the trans-formative vision of the 2030 Agenda for SDGs.
go through Module 2-4:
- Module 2 will provide you with guidance on how to copy materials to your course in Canvas, pre-course materials that your students can use prior the course start;
- Module 3 is an overview of the framework of 2030 Agenda for SDGs:
- Module 4 explain the link between Global health and SDGs and it provide teaching examples to copy in your courses in Canvas;
- While navigating these modules you find that the module always starts with module overview with list of activities to choose from and the blue coloured boxes are used when its recommended for educators to follow, the pink coloured boxes are used for TIPS.
