to familiarise yourself with the United Nations web page for Sustainable development the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), targets and indicators and their interdependence with the pillars of 2030 Agenda;
to understand how SDGs influence your teaching practices, go through module 1;
to have guidance on how to integrate SDGs into your course, follow the list of steps (you find in Recommendations for educators) to help you to reflect and explore on how and what to integrate;
to get inspiration, go through promising practices on how to integrate SDGs in teaching

General Overview

In line with KI Strategy 2030, all KI activities should be guided by and contributing to the United Nations Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 2030 Agenda for sustainable development is referred to a comprehensive action plan for people, planet and prosperity. This relates directly to the 3 pillars of sustainable development social, environmental and economic. The 2030 Agenda added the notion of peace and partnership to those traditional pillars of sustainability. The Agenda is made up of 17 interdependent goals, 169 targets and over 230 indicators for measuring progress. These goals aim to leave no one behind via ending poverty, eradicating inequality, protecting our planet and creating sustainable economies in partnership and peace. To achieve the trans-formative vision of the 2030 Agenda we have to consider new ways of thinking and acting, in other words we need trans-formative learning.

The SDG4 "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all"

Quality education and lifelong learning is a means for escaping poverty and an enabler of progress across the 2030 Agenda. The SDG4 is of critical importance because of its trans-formative effects on the other SDGs. In particular, Target 4.7 is key to achieving Agenda 2030. It highlights the power of trans-formative education, education that promotes global citizenship, sustainable development, human rights, gender equality, peace and appreciation of cultural diversity. Trans-formative education is education that fosters engaged, active and critical learners that take action for sustainable development. As educators we should ask ourselves

how to contribute to trans-formative education? What skills and competencies our students need to acquire in order to take actions in achieving the trans-formative vision of the 2030 Agenda? What key competencies my educational activities are facilitating? Is it possible to maintain learning objectives, skills and competencies all together?
