Why Global Health?

As the world becomes increasingly globalised it is necessary for our students at KI to recognise health in a global context. Global Health looks at health and well-being via an international lens to ease a broader understanding of and solutions to Global Health challenges that transcend international borders. It is a field that prioritises improving health and achieving health equity for all people worldwide involving many disciplines within and beyond the health sciences.

Koplan defined Global Health as "an area for study, research, and practice or collaborative action that places a priority on improving health and achieving equity in health for all people worldwide. Global health emphasises transnational health issues, determinants, and solutions; involves many disciplines within and beyond health sciences and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration. ” Koplan. Lancet 2009; 373: 1993.

Why SDGs?

In line with KI Strategy 2030, all KI activities should be guided by and contributing to the United Nations Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are interconnected and linked to Global Health, and more specifically to SDG3 Good Health and Well-being.

In order to consolidate the link between education and research, this toolkit will help you, teaching and supervisory staff at KI, to integrate matters related to Global Health and SDGs into the content, objectives, activities, assessment and outcomes of your teaching and your student's learning.
